London, Canterbury, Winchester, Oxford, Norwich, Cambridge are the market destinations compared in this London, East & South East guide. Choose a setting and arrival route, then open the full destination guide for dates and practical details.
Use this regional shortlist to compare a day out or choose one base for a longer stay. It is a set of editorial groupings for browsing, not a suggested route connecting every city or a claim about regional transport times.
Each entry below shares its dates, setting and admission summary with its main guide. Follow the city page for separate venues, closures and current-source links. Choose the pace and arrival route around your group rather than the number of markets you can fit into a day.
Pick your London Christmas mood: riverside chalets at Southbank, a little West End skating at Leicester Square, or a full day of lights and attractions in Hyde Park. Give one venue the evening it deserves, then choose a hotel that makes the journey home easy.

A regional shortlist helps you find alternatives, but each journey still needs its own plan. Compare the arrival point and the published access information below before choosing a date. These summaries are shared with the city hubs; they avoid assuming that a station name establishes a step-free route or that a nearby hotel meets your room requirements.
London
Use TfL’s journey planner for the actual date and time, then check the step-free filter separately if you need it. For Southbank, the organiser’s access maps matter more than simply choosing the nearest station; bridge approaches and venue lifts can change the route. Leicester Square’s organiser gives its namesake station as a one-minute walk, but proximity does not establish step-free access. Hyde Park has several approaches and gates, so follow the directions attached to your ticket. Check your final mainline connection as well as the last Underground service: reaching a London terminus after the last train home is not a successful return plan.
Check the last service for your exact route and date before leaving home. Holiday timetables, engineering works and connections can change the journey; a market closing time is not a last-train time.
Plan each venue separately. Use Southbank Centre’s access information for the riverside visit, Winter Wonderland’s access team for Hyde Park and Skate Leicester Square’s visitor information for the rink. Include the station exit and booked entrance in your route.
Check official transport information and live rail services before travelling.
Most of the market is on even ground, but the Cathedral Precincts have uneven areas and the route from there towards St George’s Street includes cobbles. The organiser lists toilets near the Cathedral car park and on Canterbury Lane, with baby-changing facilities. VR rides involve three small steps; Breakfast with Santa is upstairs at the Real Eating Co., while the grotto has a small entrance lip. Contact the organiser about assistance before booking.
Winchester station; plan the walk to your chosen Cathedral Close entrance.
Map walks are estimates to the market-area point, not a step-free access audit. Allow extra time for crowds and luggage.
Choose your entrance with the cathedral team if you need a step-free approach. Curles Passage, Colebrook Street/Water Gate and St Swithun’s Street are the advertised routes; ask which best suits your mobility needs and any attraction or event you have booked.
Check official transport information and live rail services before travelling.
Broad Street is pedestrianised apart from the cycle lane. The organiser welcomes assistance dogs and lists temporary event toilets beside the Broad Street bar. It links to Oxford City Council for wider city-centre accessibility information; specific accessible event-toilet provision and a dedicated step-free market access statement have not been published on the pages checked. Contact the organiser if you need a particular facility.
See organiser travel advice and check your dated return journey.
Ask the market organiser about your individual requirements and the garden paths before travelling. The nearby Forum has step-free access, lifts and ground-floor accessible visitor toilets. Its Changing Places toilet uses an access card collected from Customer Services; RADAR keys can be borrowed for the other accessible toilets. Check The Forum’s building opening hours and leave time for the walk between venues.
Use Cambridge station for rail arrivals, then follow the organiser’s directions to Parker’s Piece. The station is separate from the Christmas-event entrance; leave time for the onward walk or accessible transport. The organiser identifies Queen Anne Terrace as a nearby car park, but check restrictions, space availability and charges before driving. If adding Mill Road Winter Fair on 5 December, read its own travel and road-closure advice as well. National Rail provides current train and assistance information; recheck your return route before leaving home.
The organiser’s FAQ says the Alpine Lodge has ramps and an accessible toilet. Visit Cambridge also lists wheelchair access, mostly flat terrain and accessible toilet facilities for the event. These are not a guarantee that every attraction or temporary route suits every visitor: ask about the entrance, surface, cable covers and attraction transfers before booking. Confirm skating or ride arrangements separately. Mill Road Winter Fair and the Market Hill market have their own routes and facilities; avoid applying the Parker’s Piece information to them.
These are editorial suggestions for comparing a trip, not a measured ranking or a promise that one market suits everyone. The choices use the city guides’ retained information. Follow the full guide for its sources.
The dates here are shared with our city guides and calendar. Separate venues, closed days and split weekends still matter, so check the full guide for your visit.
Market admission, food, drink and attraction tickets are different things. Read the entry arrangements shown for your chosen city, then check the organiser’s current booking terms.
Can I rely on a map pin for an accessible entrance?
No. Pins locate the market setting rather than a guaranteed entrance or step-free route. Check the accessibility guide and confirm essential arrangements directly with the organiser.
Compare the venues as well as the cities. London has separate market outings, and several other guides have their own entry or date patterns. A market’s closing time is not the time to leave for your train.
