Build the day around one main experience. Book its arrival time and parking before adding a house tour or evening trail; they can require separate tickets.

A sweep of stalls below Chatsworth, winter parkland beyond and music drifting across Lodge Hill: this is a country-house Christmas outing with enough variety to keep the whole afternoon interesting. More than 100 stalls bring together presents, decorations and seasonal food. Start with a leisurely circuit before making your choices; there is plenty to tempt anyone who has come with a gift list, and just as much reason to pause for lunch.
The market sits between the Stables and the house entrance, rather than inside the house. That makes it possible to come just for shopping, food and the atmosphere. Entry to the market itself is free, although arriving by car requires a parking booking. Browse the Stables shop while you are here, or book the Cavendish Restaurant if you would prefer a meal at a table to eating as you explore.
For a bigger Christmas day out, add the separate house-and-garden experience. In 2026, The Twelve Days of Christmas is the house theme, while the garden has its own light trail. These experiences need the right tickets and timings; they are not simply included with market parking. Keep the market visit ahead of your evening plans so there is time to enjoy both without rushing.
Bring footwear that can cope with winter ground and leave some energy for the incline. The market closes on 13 December, but the wider Christmas programme continues into January. A stay in an estate village or nearby Baslow gives you a gentler finish to the day and another morning in the Peak District.
Market entry is free. Every vehicle, including Blue Badge vehicles, needs appropriate parking booked before arrival. All-day parking is advertised from £25 and after-3pm parking from £15; the calendar sets the price for your date. A separate Christmas house-and-garden ticket includes one car parking space per transaction and the market while it is open. Choose your timed house admission before booking a room.
Calton Lees park and ride runs on published Friday–Sunday dates during the market. It is market-only, must be booked, and has a final return at 5pm. The bus has steps and is not wheelchair accessible.
Getting there
Sheffield has a straightforward rail-and-bus option: the 218 to Bakewell calls at Chatsworth, departing from the interchange across the road from Sheffield railway station. Stagecoach 170 links Chesterfield railway station and Bakewell via Chatsworth. Check the operator’s timetable for your date and last return before booking evening activities.
Drivers should follow the brown signs and the official directions for DE45 1PP, rather than assuming the Golden Gates at Baslow are a visitor entrance. Parking must be pre-booked. Calton Lees park and ride uses a separate booking and arrival point near the garden centre at DE4 2NX; follow the event signs. Its published service has a midday break and a final 5pm return, so it does not suit a later garden-light booking.
Accessibility
The Lodge Hill market is on an incline, with trackway and ramps available on request. Accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility are near the house entrance. Wet weather can make surrounding ground muddy or slippery.
The estate’s overflow-parking tractor-and-trailer shuttle is wheelchair and pushchair accessible. This is different from the Calton Lees park-and-ride bus, which has steps and is not wheelchair accessible. Check the official Christmas access information and contact Chatsworth before booking if you need a particular parking or transfer arrangement.
The venue overview lists 10am–8pm; check the booking calendar for your date and individual palace, skating and trail times. Palace, skating and trail hours vary; use the calendar for your date.
Wooden chalets in Blenheim’s Great Court make this a particularly handsome place to begin the Christmas shopping. The palace gives the market its grand setting, while gifts, crafts, food and drink give you plenty of reasons to linger. Come for a relaxed browse, then decide how much more Christmas you want to fit into the day.
The market itself is free to enter. It works well as an outing in its own right, especially with a meal or a wander through Woodstock around it. Leave time to look properly rather than treating the stalls as a corridor to your next booking. The market organiser confirms seven-day trading during its public run, from 13 November to 20 December.
For a fuller visit, Cinderella takes over the Palace for Christmas 2026, and the illuminated trail offers an evening experience outside. The Great Skate has a covered rink, while the Observation Wheel adds another separately planned stop. Afternoon tea in the Orangery can give the day a more leisurely centrepiece. These are distinct experiences with separate admission arrangements, so settle your tickets and timings before committing to an overnight stay.
Woodstock’s hotels put a town dinner within easy reach of your plans; Oxford gives you a bigger choice of city stays with an onward bus journey. However you travel, leave a generous gap between bookings. The Christmas Market finishes on 20 December, while the wider Christmas programme continues into January. If you visit after Christmas, build the day around the experiences actually operating, rather than expecting the chalets to remain open.
The Christmas Market is free to enter, according to the official ticketing FAQ. Cinderella inside the Palace, the illuminated trail, skating and other paid experiences have their own tickets. Palace-and-trail combined tickets are available; book the time slots that suit your day.
Pre-book Christmas parking if driving; a charge applies. Market access alone does not include the Palace or light trail. The usual green-travel ticket promotion excludes the Christmas event, so avoid assuming a bus journey brings a Christmas admission discount.
Getting there
Oxford is a useful rail gateway. The official venue travel page lists Stagecoach S3 and S7 services to Woodstock: the S3 serves Oxford railway station, and both use Magdalen Street. Buses stop outside the main entrance, followed by a walk of about ten minutes through the park. Check the current timetable and your last return, particularly for an evening trail.
Drivers should follow the Christmas booking confirmation and pre-book the correct parking. Woodstock makes a convenient town base, but consult the official event entrance instructions rather than assuming every gate is open. The usual GREEN20 sustainable-travel discount excludes Christmas at Blenheim.
Accessibility
Plan access around the particular experience. The Palace State Rooms are on one level, with lift or ramp arrangements described in the venue access guidance. The light trail is approximately 2.98km over mixed terrain and gradients, with conditions affected by weather. The official FAQ permits visitors’ own charged mobility scooters but says scooter hire is unavailable.
The official FAQ lists quieter Palace and trail sessions on 8 and 28 December 2026, with Mobiloo on site from 3.30pm on those dates. Accessible parking needs the correct advance booking. Published pages disagree about the named Blue Badge arrival gate, so follow your current booking instructions or confirm directly with the organiser.
20 November 2026–3 January 2027, selected evenings
Light-trail entry times depend on the booked date and slot; daytime Castle opening is separate.
Choose between two different visits: an evening illuminated route with food stalls, or the daytime Wallace & Gromit adventure inside the Castle. The lights are a separate ticket, not an annual-admission extra.
Christmas Lights runs 20 November–3 January on selected dates, separately charged; daytime Castle/attractions and annual tickets are not included. Wallace & Gromit runs 21 November–3 January with daytime admission. Select dates and ticket type on the official booking page.
Getting there
Use the Castle’s official directions for the event entrance and parking. Confirm rail arrival and onward transfer before booking an evening slot.
Accessibility
Ask the Christmas Lights organiser about surfaces, gradients, mobility equipment and essential-companion arrangements for the chosen route.
Bed-and-breakfast accommodation on the Leeds Castle estate. The official stay information includes daytime castle admission, subject to availability; Christmas Lights requires its own appropriate event booking.

House slots and outlet opening times vary; Gardens open from 9.30am or 10am depending on the date.
An immersive decorated-house visit inspired by Dickens, rather than a stand-alone outdoor market. Add the courtyard shops and cafés or a separately booked afternoon tea; avoid assuming Father Christmas experiences are included.
House entry is timed in 30-minute windows. Official adult prices range £24–£40 and child prices £12–£20, plus 5.5% online booking fee. Gardens access is included; dining and Santa experiences have their own inclusions.
Getting there

Attraction 10am–5pm; Palace House first entry 10.30am, last entry 4pm. Closed Christmas Day.
Palace House becomes an Alice-themed festive house experience with installations and storytelling. The gift shop and separately booked Wonderland Tea & Treats make this a house-and-food outing, not an advertised chalet market.

Accessibility
Wheelchair routes connect the main sites, with some gravel/hoggin paths. Palace House’s ground floor is accessible but there is no lift to the upper floor; a visual guide is available.
Evening entry from 4.45pm; select the exact date and time when booking.
An Alice-themed illuminated grounds trail with water features and ruins, plus hot food and doughnuts on the Castle Terrace and the gift shop. This is a light-trail evening, not a general craft fair.

Getting there
Use the event’s official Find Us page and allow for the rural approach from Winchcombe. Arrange your evening return before setting out.
Accessibility
The trail follows the normal grounds paths, some uneven. The organiser says two parts cannot be reached by wheelchair or mobility scooter, with stewards available to help visitors follow the accessible route. Confirm whether the alternative route suits your equipment and needs. Assistance dogs only.

The Tenants’ Hall hosts a four-day seasonal food and gift fair with local artisans. The Mansion’s Around the World in 80 Days experience, garden trail and Father Christmas at the Farm use separate dates and bookings.
Gift Fair admission is free; parkland vehicle entry applies. Pre-book parkland entry online for the advertised 10% saving. Mansion, farm and garden experiences are separate tickets.
Getting there
Follow signs from M6 junction 19 or M56 junction 7. The main car park serves the Mansion and Stableyard. Knutsford station is around half a mile from Knutsford Gate, then a further two miles through the estate to the Mansion area: allow for the whole journey, or arrange a taxi.
Accessibility
Blue Badge spaces and a passenger drop-off are available near the Stableyard; accessible toilets are in the Stableyard and at Knutsford Entrance. Flagged paths avoid cobbles around the Stableyard. Ask the team specifically about access to the Tenants’ Hall event before travelling.

Getting there
Follow Longleat’s official directions to the visitor entrance at BA12 7JS. Parking is free. Accessible bays are provided in the Lime Tree and Silver Birch car parks, with most in Silver Birch. Hever offers a small but important date to put in the diary: its charity Christmas Fair takes place on one Friday, before the main Christmas season begins. Browse gifts, decorations, textiles and other finds in the Guthrie Pavilion, then enjoy the castle and grounds included with the day’s ticket. The fair supports Hever Primary School and St Peter’s Church, giving a little local purpose to the shopping. It is a different outing from Hever’s later Christmas programme, so be careful to book 6 November if the fair is what you want. An overnight stay in Hever or nearby Penshurst gives you space to enjoy the Kent setting without trying to squeeze everything into the afternoon.
Tickets and timing
Castle, grounds and fair admission: adults/concessions £10; children 5–17 £5. Annual members pay £3 on entry to the fair. £3 from each ticket supports Hever Primary School and St Peter’s Church.
Getting there
Edenbridge Town and Edenbridge stations need an onward taxi; Hever recommends booking both legs ahead. Hever station has a signed approximately one-mile rural walking route and no station taxis. Wear suitable footwear and check daylight conditions.

Tickets and timing
Admission from £10. VIP brunch/afternoon-tea options include parking at The Dairy. The normal Christmas event is paused; this is the separate Dairy fair, not house-and-grounds admission.
Getting there
Use the visitor car park and included shuttle for standard fair admission. Premium Dairy parking is a separate product or part of designated VIP packages. The Dairy is on Silk Street, Waddesdon.
Accessibility
The Dairy is step free and wheelchair friendly, with gravel at the entrance. Limited Blue Badge parking at The Dairy must be arranged in advance. Wheelchairs are available first come first served; assistance dogs are welcome.

Highclere’s Christmas Tours & Carols combine a look inside the castle with music, decorations and a Courtyard Christmas Gift Market, weather permitting. It suits a celebratory day out: choose your castle arrival window first, then leave time for the gift shop, stalls and a warming stop at the tea rooms. The sunset option may appeal if you like seeing the decorations as daylight fades. A country inn nearby makes a comfortable finish, with no need to turn the festive afternoon into a hurried journey home. Book the event before your hotel: there are no additional tickets sold on the day.
Tickets and timing
Pre-book online. Includes castle State Rooms and Gallery Bedrooms, Egyptian Exhibition, carols, decorations and weather-dependent courtyard market. Adult tickets include a signed Christmas at Highclere book; children’s tickets do not.
Getting there
Use postcode RG20 9LE, then follow the brown tourist signs from the A34: Highclere warns that satnav near the castle can lead to the wrong entrance. Trains run from London Paddington to Newbury; continue by taxi and arrange the return journey.
Accessibility
Check the official accessibility advice before purchasing: historic interior access and the outdoor courtyard are distinct parts of the visit. Contact Highclere about your individual needs and carer ticket options.
Check the live booking calendar for your chosen event, including timed arrival, parking and any separate house admission. We avoid inferring a sell-out date from a previous season; availability is set by the organiser.
