Compare the arrival and access arrangements
A regional shortlist helps you find alternatives, but each journey still needs its own plan. Compare the arrival point and the published access information below before choosing a date. These summaries are shared with the city hubs; they avoid assuming that a station name establishes a step-free route or that a nearby hotel meets your room requirements.
Newcastle
See organiser travel advice and check your dated return journey.
Ask the event organiser about the market route and temporary facilities. Nexus says Metro stations have level access, ramps or lifts, but platform gaps and steps vary: read its station access guide and check live lift information. Eldon Square lists accessible toilets in Grey’s Quarter and St George’s Way, with a RADAR key needed. Check the centre’s opening hours and current closure notices before relying on a particular facility.

Durham
See organiser travel advice and check your dated return journey.
Durham’s route includes steep streets and cobbles. The organiser describes a free wheelchair-accessible taxi from the bottom of Market Place for visitors unable to reach Palace Green on foot. Check the travel page for changes to the Saturday drop-off and confirm the final return taxi with its driver. Contact the festival team about your individual requirements and confirm arrangements before setting out.

York
Official access guide recommends buses and links six York Park & Ride sites, with free parking and onward electric buses. Check bus fare and last return separately: free parking is not free bus travel. Rail walks and exact last trains not verified. Council vehicle restrictions and Blue Badge access differ on Tuesday rest days.
Pedestrian routes have dropped kerbs, with some uneven paving around tree roots. Stalls offer counter service or ramps. Accessible toilets are on Silver Street. The music-free period is 10.30am–noon on open days, and the Quiet Oasis at St Sampson’s Centre opens Monday–Saturday 10am–4pm.

Leeds
Leeds station puts you directly beside City Square, making a train arrival a lovely easy start. Browse the stalls before heading further into the centre, then leave time to return for your platform and any onward connection. Check the operator’s planner for your chosen date, including engineering changes and the final service home.
City Square is step-free, though it can be busy at peak times. Assistance dogs are welcome. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the organiser’s suggested times for an easier browse.

Manchester
TfGM's official market travel page confirms the 6 November–22 December season, but full text fetch was blocked. Use the live Bee Network journey planner for the specific day. Choose the station for the market cluster you want; Victoria suits the northern cluster and Piccadilly is a central arrival option, with route distances to be checked.
Choose the locations you want to visit first, then ask the market team for the most suitable entrance, surfaces and toilet route. For an attraction, arrange any companion ticket or assistance before booking.

Liverpool
Lime Street is the organiser’s nearest advertised mainline approach, directly opposite the venue; allow its stated five-minute walk plus time to find the right entrance. Liverpool Central is given as about ten minutes away and Queen Square bus station about five. If you need level access, head for the Lime Street entrances rather than following the stair approach. Check your actual rail operator and Merseyrail itinerary for the return: an evening finish at 10pm does not guarantee a convenient final connection. Keep a realistic buffer for crowds, platforms and any change of train.
Check the last service for your exact route and date before leaving home. Holiday timetables, engineering works and connections can change the journey; a market closing time is not a last-train time.
Use the level Lime Street entrances; the main approach has stairs. Accessible toilets are at the Lime Street entrance. The site is partly tarmac and partly cobbled, with matting on main routes, so some uneven surfaces remain. Wheelchairs can use the rink; powered chairs must be switched off on the ice.

Chester
Chester station; plan the onward walk to Town Hall Square.
Map walks are estimates to the market-area point, not a step-free access audit. Allow extra time for crowds and luggage.
Ask the market team for the step-free approach to Town Hall Square, accessible toilets and the route from your chosen Blue Badge bay. Seasonal security arrangements can change familiar access points.
