Bath market accessibility

Start with the surfaces and the return route. Bath’s cobbles and slopes matter as much as the distance from the station.

Routes and surfaces

Bath Spa is a short walk from the market. The bus station is alongside it on Dorchester Street. Abbey Green has cobbles. Map the whole journey from the station exit or parking bay, including the return after dark.

For a wheelchair or mobility scooter, ask the organiser about temporary ramps, gradients and turning space on your intended route. A mapped walking time does not establish a step-free approach.

Parking and coach arrivals

Odd Down, Newbridge and Lansdown are the park-and-ride options. Seasonal road closures can affect Blue Badge spaces on Cheap Street, Westgate Street and Upper Borough Walls. Coaches use Royal Avenue; the return walk is uphill.

Use the current Travelwest timetable and the specific parking restrictions. Check lift availability if a multi-storey is part of your route.

Toilets and Changing Places

Accessible event toilets are listed at Terrace Walk, Bilbury Lane and Royal Avenue. Temporary map pins locate the street or site, not the exact unit. Changing Places facilities are listed at Bath Leisure Centre and SouthGate Vaults, with their own opening hours.

If equipment, transfer space or a key decides whether a facility works for you, get those details directly before travelling. A standard accessible toilet is not the same as a Changing Places facility.

A quieter visit

Tuesday and Wednesday, 10am–noon, are the organiser’s quieter shopping periods, without large-scale entertainment scheduled. Bath Central Library offers another place for a break during its opening hours.

Our pick is a short morning visit with a meeting point away from the food queues. Speak to the team if noise, lighting or queuing affects your plans.

Assistance and individual requirements

The event-accessibility team is the right contact for your specific route and requirements. For any separately booked activity, ask about transfers, powered wheelchairs, companion arrangements and assistance dogs before paying.

Questions before you go

What is the published access information for Bath?

Bath’s historic setting includes cobbles and slopes, so plan the approach as well as the distance. Tuesday and Wednesday 10am–noon are quieter shopping periods. The map marks the named event-toilet areas and Changing Places sites; temporary toilet pins show the street area, so ask staff for the exact unit. Read the Bath accessibility guide →

Does a walking time establish a step-free route?

No. Walking estimates and map pins are navigation aids, not an audit of kerbs, gradients, surfaces or accessible entrances. Confirm the approach and any essential facilities before travelling.

Can I assume a hotel has a suitable accessible room?

No. Ask the property directly about the room, bathroom, entrance and any equipment you need before paying. A hotel’s location or map walking time does not establish room accessibility.
